Real Steel-Metallic Smack Down

This movie was surprisingly good.  I must admit that I went in thinking it would be poorly made and probably badly scripted, but it actually delivered a good quality in both.  The action was cool and the computer graphics were exceptional.  Hugh Jackman, as always, delivers the best performance of the movie.  The child actor in this though, can not be over looked, Dakota Goyo.  He is a talent worth watching, I believe he will go places in the filming industry.  But back to the Steel, I won't give away plot points or put in any spoilers, but trust me when I say that this movie is worth a viewing in the theater.  The metal hitting metal is extremely entertaining and visually it looks fantastic and actually looks real (Ironic considering the title).  This review is short, but really all that needs to be said about this film is its worth a watch and personally, I'm buying it when it comes out on DVD.

Green Lantern-The Willpower to Thrive

I'm diving head first into this argument.  People have argued against me on this, some very unpleasantly.  What I am talking about is the quality of Green Lantern, I believe this is a solid movie and is very enjoyable to watch.  This is my opinion, simple as can be.  I am a fan of Ryan Reynolds and his erratic form of sarcastic comedy, it reflects my personality in many ways.  But back to my point, this movie is well done on multiple levels.  It has beautiful computer graphics and impressive scenery through the imagination of computer design.  Many people complain that the Green Lantern suit looks cheesy, this is an unfair statement.  It isn't "classic" as they would like, its a modernized version.  But they are also modernizing Superman and have modernized Batman, I don't hear any sort of criticism being dished to those two heroes. The obvious point is that everyone goes into this movie with a negative opinion already implanted.  When you see a movie expecting it to be bad, 99% of the time you will see it as a failure.  I went into this movie hoping it would be everything I've wanted in a Green Lantern movie since I was 7 years old.  It wasn't as smoothly done as I would like, but I thought it was an entertaining piece of film.  To me that's the whole point of film, to entertain.  If you feel like you were excited and that the action was nice and visually pleasing, you have been entertained.  When you start to be "intelligent" and find all kinds of little criticisms just for the sake of finding the faults you believe are there, you take away the magic of the movie.  We are a fortunate generation, not very long ago, our main form of film was called "Flickers".  Silent movies that seemed to flicker in lighting because it was through a crank projector that these movies were shown.  Also, I would add that these movies were black and white.  People laughed and loved these movies, some people still enjoy them, like watching the famous Charlie Chaplin as his character "The Tramp".  Now we are ranting and becoming abusive towards a highly advanced and visually impressive film like this Green Lantern?  We are so jaded against our own privileges that we lose sight of how blessed we are at what we are now able to put into these visual stories called "films".  With all this, I will leave you with one statement.  This is all my opinion, if you do not share it that is fine.  Please refrain from vulgar insults and negative language, I am open to discussions of why I love this GL film.

Cowboys & Aliens

This movie was an all around good time.  The feel of it was silly, not to be taken too seriously when going into the theater but it's a classic show of Jon Favreau's ability to make an entertaining and satisfying action flick.
The plot is solid enough, though it has it's flimsy spots here and there.  I think that the main pillars that this movie has to support it is the acting and action.  The action was loud and well coordinated, you could keep track of who was where without having to take notes or split your skull in half from all the crazy camera movement.
The cast was strong.  From the cool and smooth Daniel Craig, to the rough and entertaining Harrison Ford.  The main actress in this film (Olivia Wilde) is solid.  She isn't so involved that it becomes over-bearing and she isn't so scarce that her presence becomes an annoyance.  She has a good purpose in the film and I liked how they brought her full circle.
All in all I would give this movie a strong 8/10.  I recommend you see it in theaters so that the explosions are to their full volume.

How Hard Did Thor Hit?

This action flick was exceptional.  Of course, that's just my view talking.  Many people thought this film lacked body because it didn't follow the action pattern.  This pattern is where an action film traditionally starts with a small conflict, has a middle larger battle, and then the final grand battle.  Thor's beginning fight was the largest.  Though to me, it had to be.  He had all his godly powers in the start of the film so naturally the first fight would be huge. If you have seen Thor you would understand how it would be difficult to top that beginning battle.  But if you look beyond this break of tradition it isn't a bad film.  The man who plays Thor (Chris Hemsworth) does a solid job and is entertaining to say the least.  I had doubts when I heard they were making this movie because it's never easy to put a godly figure on screen and have it be believable.  Truthfully, I was somewhat dissapointed in Anthony Hopkin's performance as Thor's father Odin.  But it can't be easy to play an absolute divine monarch, so I will cut him some slack.  If you asked me if this movie was worth seeing, I would simply answer "yes".  So if you haven't experienced Thor in all his thunder god powers, I suggest you give it a shot.

Legends of the Fall. Truely Legendary.

Let me start this out with one word.  "Brilliant".  That's the best I could come up with for this film.  As anyone who reads my profile knows, I am a guy, and usually we guys do not cry.  However I must admit that I did get choked up several times in this movie.  Brad Pitt gives the most amazing performence in his career along with Anthony Hopkins.  The film is based in the time before World War 1 and goes on to 1962 where the main character finally concludes.  I can't give away any plot points or give spoilers on account that it would be betraying one of the most purely grand films in the history of this world.  Obviously from my praise I think very highly of this movie, that is not surprising to anyone who has seen it themselves.  I personally went out and purchased the movie the very first chance I got.  This movie contains so many messages that all I can do is sum up.  It involves the relationship between brothers, a father, a lover, and life long friends.  Brings together different dynamics of personalities.  brad Pitt's character is wild and almost careless while is older brother Alfred is practical and logical thinking.  It combines love, loss, and pain.  Brings together everything that anyone would want to witness on this planet and makes you think about how you want to finish out your life.  I love it, and I will always love this film.

The Thing (past movie special)

Currently I have had movie nights with my brother at his apartment, every Thursday we watch two movies and last week one of them was The Thing.  Now, I had never seen that movie before but now that I have I think it deserves a shout out on here at least.  This movie is a classic of classics in all honesty.  I enjoyed watching every moment and it had a good amount of mystery to it.  The "Thing" referes to an alien entity that can consume and "copy" the creature it absorbs.  Every person in the movie has a chance of being infected so no one trusts each other because no one knows who is really themselves, which provides for a good amount of suspense.  I won't give away the ending, granted most people have probably already seen this movie but I must say it ends with a bang, literally.  Before I forget, the reason this group of men do not abandon ship and run for it is cause they are in Atlantica in a sub-zero ice field.  They don't explain why but they're in a Study Center and apperently an alien crash landed thousands of years before the discovery, very fascinating.

The Shining (old movie review special)

This film portrays the sort of symptoms people have faced when put in a position of silence and isolation.  Jack Nicholson is now my official number one "creepy actor".  By this I mean, he can play the psycho part so well, while maintaining a sense of reality and believability.  While his character does end up being the antagonist of the film, you can't help but have one side or more that feels sorry or kind of votes for him.  Jack's character is a family man and has made mistakes.  The sad part is that in the end, his last attempt to make things right and to find a way out from his drunken past and a new life for his family, ends up being the last thing he should have tried.  The one thing about the movie I sort of was iffy on was the ending, I won't spoil it but it was confusing and had a sort of "reincarnation" hint to it, like he had lived in the past before.  You'll see, or you have seen, what I am talking about.  But in the interest of telling you how good this movie actually is, on a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it a "10+".  Also this movie isn't too scary for those girlfriends who are reluctant to share a time of terror with you guys, or vice versa.  But it still holds onto that terror sense we all love.  To wrap it all up, this movie is both genius and frightening, Jack Nicholson delivers one, if not the, best performance in his colorful career.
