Legends of the Fall. Truely Legendary.

Let me start this out with one word.  "Brilliant".  That's the best I could come up with for this film.  As anyone who reads my profile knows, I am a guy, and usually we guys do not cry.  However I must admit that I did get choked up several times in this movie.  Brad Pitt gives the most amazing performence in his career along with Anthony Hopkins.  The film is based in the time before World War 1 and goes on to 1962 where the main character finally concludes.  I can't give away any plot points or give spoilers on account that it would be betraying one of the most purely grand films in the history of this world.  Obviously from my praise I think very highly of this movie, that is not surprising to anyone who has seen it themselves.  I personally went out and purchased the movie the very first chance I got.  This movie contains so many messages that all I can do is sum up.  It involves the relationship between brothers, a father, a lover, and life long friends.  Brings together different dynamics of personalities.  brad Pitt's character is wild and almost careless while is older brother Alfred is practical and logical thinking.  It combines love, loss, and pain.  Brings together everything that anyone would want to witness on this planet and makes you think about how you want to finish out your life.  I love it, and I will always love this film.

The Thing (past movie special)

Currently I have had movie nights with my brother at his apartment, every Thursday we watch two movies and last week one of them was The Thing.  Now, I had never seen that movie before but now that I have I think it deserves a shout out on here at least.  This movie is a classic of classics in all honesty.  I enjoyed watching every moment and it had a good amount of mystery to it.  The "Thing" referes to an alien entity that can consume and "copy" the creature it absorbs.  Every person in the movie has a chance of being infected so no one trusts each other because no one knows who is really themselves, which provides for a good amount of suspense.  I won't give away the ending, granted most people have probably already seen this movie but I must say it ends with a bang, literally.  Before I forget, the reason this group of men do not abandon ship and run for it is cause they are in Atlantica in a sub-zero ice field.  They don't explain why but they're in a Study Center and apperently an alien crash landed thousands of years before the discovery, very fascinating.

The Shining (old movie review special)

This film portrays the sort of symptoms people have faced when put in a position of silence and isolation.  Jack Nicholson is now my official number one "creepy actor".  By this I mean, he can play the psycho part so well, while maintaining a sense of reality and believability.  While his character does end up being the antagonist of the film, you can't help but have one side or more that feels sorry or kind of votes for him.  Jack's character is a family man and has made mistakes.  The sad part is that in the end, his last attempt to make things right and to find a way out from his drunken past and a new life for his family, ends up being the last thing he should have tried.  The one thing about the movie I sort of was iffy on was the ending, I won't spoil it but it was confusing and had a sort of "reincarnation" hint to it, like he had lived in the past before.  You'll see, or you have seen, what I am talking about.  But in the interest of telling you how good this movie actually is, on a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it a "10+".  Also this movie isn't too scary for those girlfriends who are reluctant to share a time of terror with you guys, or vice versa.  But it still holds onto that terror sense we all love.  To wrap it all up, this movie is both genius and frightening, Jack Nicholson delivers one, if not the, best performance in his colorful career.

Resident Evil 4: Afterlife

This movie is a fantastic undead film.  It puts together the four things that makes a film great; Action, beautiful girls, a very talented cast (including an extremely bad ass Wentworth Miller as "Chris Redfield"), and good writing.  The main girl was dialed down a notch, I won't spoil anything because I hate telling the good parts about movies without them being seen.  The plot itself was very solid and had a good set of characters to play off of.  The casting was fantastic: from the beautiful Milla Jovovich (Alice), to the incredibly tempting Ali Larter (Claire Redfield), and from the talented tough ass Wentworth Miller (Chris Redfield), to the under-appreciated Kim Coates (Bennet).  One thing I liked about the movie is that the main actress wasn't the only action hero, obviously from all my comments like "bad ass" and "tough ass" for Wentworth, he delivered a performance to be remembered.  He however is not the only one to receive those compliments.  Boris Kodjeo and Shawn Roberts were both awesome.  Most people love zombie movies because they are classic films, but this is not just another zombie movie, it's more undead (yes there is a difference).  But one undead is incredible and probably the most terrifying, he is about 10 ft tall and wields a hammer-axe that can shear a man in half from his head to his crotch.  It combines random jumping terror and suspense, all in all, you need to see this film.

Dexter "Blood Splatter Batter"

This show is very clever, and stressing at the same time.  But one thing that gets to me (in a good way), is that the main character "Dexter" always gets soooo close to getting caught and barely escapes!  But it's a good thriller show, probably the best.  It has it's own edge to it and it's always got a new spin that you just don't see coming.  Characters that you hate at first you end up loving, and characters that you love you end up hating.  But no matter what cruelties that Dexter can dish out to his pray, you never dislike him.  It probably helps that his victims are dirt bag murders and rapists.  But he just has the personality that's dry yet so energizing to the show.  One character that I will mention that I could actually live without is Dexter's sister, her name isn't relevant, if you watch the show she sticks out like a giant pink hippo, only one with a large curse word vocabulary.  In the end though, too much good out weighs any "bad' in the show so it automatically makes it worth watching.

Shutter Island

If there is a movie that will make you believe that being a genius is possible.  Then this is it.  I watched this just last night and it is amazing, really even if you read what the movie was about, looked at spoilers on the internet, you will still be surprised by the ending.  You get so into the film that it makes you want it to go on for several more hours after it's over.  Martin Scorsese is now one of my all time favorite film makers.  I say, hands down, Shutter Island is a must see for everyone, even your 2 year old, wait until they're ten, and then have em' watch it.

The Hangover

This movie actually blew me away, but not just cause it's so amazingly funny.  But also because it's actually got an art form within it, someone sat down and put actual thought into how the movie was going to come about, the movie has a puzzle within it and then at the end, the best is literally left for last.  The credits are the best part cause the bring the whole puzzle to a close, and you get the most gut wrenching laughs out of it.  This review is short but only because it's the first on this blog.  Please check out my other blog "Movie Critic", where I am somewhat more opinionated and give longer reviews on more intense movies.  Please follow me and every great movie made, you will know about.
