My reviews on movies are simply how I see them. I hope you find some of what I say as helpful in choosing what movies to see or avoid.

The Shining (old movie review special)
This film portrays the sort of symptoms people have faced when put in a position of silence and isolation. Jack Nicholson is now my official number one "creepy actor". By this I mean, he can play the psycho part so well, while maintaining a sense of reality and believability. While his character does end up being the antagonist of the film, you can't help but have one side or more that feels sorry or kind of votes for him. Jack's character is a family man and has made mistakes. The sad part is that in the end, his last attempt to make things right and to find a way out from his drunken past and a new life for his family, ends up being the last thing he should have tried. The one thing about the movie I sort of was iffy on was the ending, I won't spoil it but it was confusing and had a sort of "reincarnation" hint to it, like he had lived in the past before. You'll see, or you have seen, what I am talking about. But in the interest of telling you how good this movie actually is, on a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it a "10+". Also this movie isn't too scary for those girlfriends who are reluctant to share a time of terror with you guys, or vice versa. But it still holds onto that terror sense we all love. To wrap it all up, this movie is both genius and frightening, Jack Nicholson delivers one, if not the, best performance in his colorful career.

I had to watch this movie a couple of times myself to understand the story and the ending. Like 2001 Space Oddesey the ending is cryptic without reading the book. Jack Nickelson is famous for his one line deliveries. In this film his, "Wendy, I'm home!" rivals his, "You can't handle the truth!"
I found this movie a bit dull in parts and a bit confusing in others but the last 30 minutes of it are worth investing the time. I hope more people will experience this classic horror tale. Glad you included it in your blog.
